Huan Being, Being Human part 1
Victor Nunes transforms ordinary everyday objects with the addition of illustrations of faces, animals and other playful scenes. I like the playfulness of how Nunes had subverted the objects as it allowed me to consider thinking of light hearted concepts and transformations of the objects I select to work with. This would enable the object to be more creative and the subversion to be much simpler whereas thinking of deep emotive concepts and meanings can over complicate the object maybe. So, ideas of drawing around the the object, using bright colours and keeping the appearance simple have come to mind.

Harriet and jaguar created by Fionna Banner presents "contradictions: beauty and brutality." Banners installation had allowed me to think deeper of utilising contrast and presenting the initial message through an introverted style. This installation also allowed me to consider playing with scale and how it will utilise space and how people will interact with this piece.

Michael Craig Martin's use of bold vibrant colours on two dimensional outlines of ordinary objects composed together also has a playfulness and pop quality. The object's scale has also been increased making them more important in addition to the colours allowing the viewer to become more interested in them. I find the way Michael Craig Martin has made the objects far more interesting to look at through the bold block colours. This is because it has showed me that subversion and transforming something is a simple process however many factors are attached and must be considered and experimented with.
Bedilia Du Maurier is a fictional character in the Hannibal series. What attracted me about this character for this project was a scene where the character was submerged Ito the hands of Hannibal. This particular scene was symbolically represented through her drowning in her bath without any hesitation almost like a baptism. The change of character psychologically and physically had been inspiring because this showed me that I can not only utilise objects but people also maybe through portraits and photography. In addition, I my interests in different sources of inspiration had widened.
The oyster is our world
The subversion of the old wooden ladder into a priceless piece of art with expensive materials associated with decoration, luxury and exuberance such as fresh water pearls, diamonds, opals, coral and many more is interesting because the way she plays with visual perception of value through the manipulation of the everyday objects. This subversion allowed me to consider reinforcing detail onto an object in a simple and limited style rather than a dramatic and colourful style which challenges the viewer's perspective on the object.
Ha Schult, Tim Noble and Sophie Webster all utilise 'rubbish' and discarded materials for their sculpture pieces. Using useless and disposable materials as building blocks re contextualises the finished pieces, Ha Schult especially seems to do this. However Tim Noble and Sophie Webster utilises rubbish to create a figure contrasting to the original form.
Capri battery
Joseph Beuys had created 200 multiples of the capri batteries in 1985 created with a lemon, light bulb and plug socket. The contrast between the playful appearance and the serious ecological message in addition to the simple design is admirable as what the artist wants to communicate is clear. I would like to consider utilising simple yet symbolic materials also for this project to convey and address what I feel or what I think in a straightforward style.

This artist transforms and injects surrealism into his sculptures by combining two elements such as in this case a walking stick with a deer's leg and hoof. This had allowed me to create a transformation through simply merging two or three elements together to form one.
Soft toilet
Claes Oldenburg's soft sculpture of the toilet has an unappetizing and comical appearance through the use of materials such as vinyl which allows the sculpture to look more plastic. I personally find how the sculpture slouches quite humorous because it contradicts the sturdiness and structured quality of an actual toilet. Oldenburg's soft toilet piece alongside his other soft sculptures allowed me to consider to play around with scale and different materials to subvert and alter the image or object that I am interested in.

The intelligent optimist exhibition:
1: What is it?
2: What does it communicate?
3: How else can it be done?
As a class we visited the intelligent optimist exhibition as an exercise to understand and critique the visual communication of the artists and designers work. We were to be using the three questions (shown above) to critique and learn visual communication.
During the visit, my tutor had questioned me about a piece called the 'Refugee and the burden' a jewellery piece. She questioned me on what the piece was and what the designer was trying to communicate (without reading the description). At first I was very confused by what exactly the piece was and what it tried to communicate because the title of the piece and what I was looking at did not show a link. Eventually the tutor explained to me the importance of creating a piece which clearly shows,communicates and presents the artists thoughts because without clarity the piece is irrelevant. Thus from the exhibition visit I understood that as artists or designers we have to make our work understandable and straightforward as the viewer would also understand the message which I think makes the work more interesting.
